While in Avignon, France I have come to realize there are only a few moments, or maybe just one moment that truly can withstand the test of time; that one moment that, well, you couldn’t live without.
When I was a kid I used to constantly imagine my life as a super genius computer scientist. I was enamored with the idea of making any type of device my mind could conjure up. Walking through the streets of Athens, Ohio can compare to walking through a 3D timeline. Take the old brick pathways on College Green past the first buildings built on campus and it’s like you’ve been transported back to the 1800’s.
It’s 10:26 on a breezy Saturday morning on the outskirts of Athens, Ohio. Sunrays beam down onto our faces and backs, already letting us know it’s going to be a hot one today. People walk past quickly, minding their own collective businesses, seemingly all on a mission to somewhere.
“Some people can party and still maintain a balanced life, but that’s not what it was for me,” Sanderson said. Drinking became a priority for her. She admits that it was hard for her to realize she had a problem at the time because everyone around her was living the same lifestyle. It seemed acceptable.
One would be hard pressed to describe Ohio University junior Sam Phillips as an intimidating man. The 21-year-old finance major’s disarming smile, friendly demeanor and easy laugh would lead most to describe him as affable. Under this beguilingly pleasant persona, however, lies the devious, calculating, mind of a killer.
Every year, Ohio University Student Senate divides and forms parties to run for positions in student government. The two parties that formed for this year’s election were SOUND and P.E.A.R. While these parties are in competition with each other, ultimately they are running for the same reasons: to give the student body a voice and make our university a better place for it’s inhabitants.
When a member of our staff, Natalie Mecuri, decided that she wanted to tryout for America’s Next Top Model, three other members of The Essay’s staff decided to document her journey to the top. The crew consisted of Michaela Meaney, Erin Raby and myself. We grabbed our notebooks and cameras and headed to Portsmouth, OH.

As originally reported by The Post, OU student Nathaniel Huggins, on hiatus fall quarter, was arrested October 9 and charged with felonious assault and aggravated menacing. According to court documents, he allegedly stabbed a former student with an edged-weapon — five weeks prior to his arrest — on September 5.
